In my Introduction to Animal Biology class, we took a field trip to the Living Planet Aquarium. We were asked to pick one of the animals on display and write a report about it, including the taxonomy of the animal, features of each taxa, habitat and hunting habits. The animal I chose to write about was the pharaoh cuttlefish.
Reflection
I had some knowledge of cuttlefish prior to my research, but I quickly discovered how fascinating and underrated these creatures really are. They are incredibly intelligent invertebrates, and their color-changing talents are unparalleled, able to camouflage not only in color but also texture, or lure prey into its grasp by hypnotizing it with a brilliant luminescent lightshow. After learning about these incredible animals, I definitely have more respect for them now, and enjoyed searching for more information about these little-known cephalopods.
